Any car with a OBDII port, that's 1996 and NEWER have the port someplace. Any scanner these days can read the Generic OBDII Engine codes!!! There are also Enhanced OBDII codes that are more Specific for GM, Ford, Chrysler, etc that a cheap Scanner can't read, well some do kind of. Of course there's also ABS, AirBag, Heating
