Tabata training is a form of high intensity interval training suggested by Dr. Izumi Tabata. A standard "tabata" consists of eight rounds, each with twenty seconds of "work" and ten seconds of "rest". During the "work" portion of each round, you perform an exercise of your choice, like push-ups or sit-ups, at high intensity. During the "rest" portion of each round, you rest. Your goal is to perform the greatest number of repetitions in each round that you can safely maintain for all eight rounds. Tabata training has been demonstrated to be more effective at improving fitness than long duration, moderate intensity exercise.
Sergeant Tabata tells you when to work and when to rest. It supports standard tabatas and also custom tabatas with your choice of work time, rest time, and number of rounds.

This app is better at timing intervals than Workout Buddy, and you can do custom intervals, but it doesn't call out exercise names!!! It's just an interval timer and should be called "interval timer." I thought it would actually suggest movements. Still, helpful if you have a pinned workout and want an easier way to time it
A previous review stated the timer didnt "call out exercises." That's not what a tabata timer does, and thats explained in the description. A standard Tabata timer has 8 sets of 20 seconds "on" then 10 seconds "rest." When doing a Tabata, you keep track of how many reps of the exercise you chose to do (eg say pushups) that you complete, going "all out" dring the "work" period. Now, a super duper Tabata skill would allow you to call out the reps, and then at the end of the set of 8, Alexa would tell you. But I imagine that'd take a lot of programming ;)
Just what I was looking for to remind me to work for 20 seconds, then rest for 20 seconds for 12 minutes like my chiropractor recommended. Tell Sgt. Tabata to create custom 18 sessions 20 work, 20 rest. So thrilled 😁 it makes it fun.
This works very well for me. It basically allows me to control timing of my workouts by establishing work and rest times at the very beginning, without having to keep monitoring my stopwatch during the work out. I especiaappreciate that it doesn't try to tell me what to do, and I can use it for my own routines
