I asked the same Q and decided to check directly with the manufacturer .. their answer was .. each caplet contains 50mg of elemental zinc, so zinc gluconate is the compound used to provide this 50mg of elemental zinc/caplet

Generally, the label says: NO preservatives, sugar, starch, corn, soy, egg, lactose, gluten, wheat, yeast, fish. It does contain Zinc Gluconate, croscarmellose sodium and a few other ingredients, I don't know if those can be gmo. The label does NOT say non-gmo

I find that 50 mg may be too much per day for me so I cut them in half.
Maybe if you crush it and add it to a drink the swallowing problem will be relieved.
