Yes, the lens is supported. This is the lens that a fully outfitted kit contains.

Marc is correct. This would work great with that camera. The only DSLRs that it wouldn't work well with are the high-end, full frame cameras like the 6D, 5D, 1D, etc. Those cameras have a larger sensor, and you would get severe vignetting going on.

Assuming that we are talking about this camers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EOS_1000D then it should according to this article. The EOS 1000D supports EF-S lenses as it is using the APS-C 1.6 crop factor sensor.
