Yes, you can use your finger to touch the screen. You do not need a stylus.

a light touch with fingers works best, but my more callous finger tips don't work so well as others with softer more sensitive finger tips

Yes, it's designed to use touch. If you choose to use a stylus (I do sometimes for input or selecting small fields), don't use a hard stylus. Get a capacitive stylus designed for tablet touch screens.

you can use touch by finger or a softer stylus. i bought the additional keyboard which is nice if you have a lot of typing to do on it, but that makes it heavy.
