Is there a way to have IS active with the magnified view to help in manual focusing? I do not mean the MF-assist function.

I figured out how to get Zoomed IS with a Manual Lens.

Along with:
Menu -> Detailed camera options [Gear Menu] -> C -> Half Way Rls With IS = On
If you set Fn2 to Magnify, you can then hold the shutter half way down and IS will turn on without zooming back out. You then have to tap Fn2 again to return your view to normal. see less

Actually you can do it in some cases, though it is a bit tricky.

This will turn IS on why you push the shutter button half way.
Combine this with MF Assist
Menu -> Detailed camera options [Gear Menu] -> A -> MF Assist = On
Now, push your shutter half way and then start adjusting the manual focus ring, you will get IS and a magnified view.
This works with the 12-50mm kit lens and I assume other Micro Four Thirds digital lenses, but does not work with non-digital manual lenses. I'm still looking for a solution for that one.
EDIT: Reading a comment I see that this is not the answer the author is looking for, but I'll leave it up in case others want to know how to get at least this far. see less

nope, IS effect shown via the VF is impossible due to the OM-D utilizing body based image stabilization instead of lens based.
