I know that every review says they're great for close-up viewing, but how about far distance?

If you are an extremely serious birder, they probably aren't the best but, that said, distance viewing is just fine....not spectacular but certainly good enough for identification and observation. Be sure to get the 8.5x21 and not the 6.5x21. You can focus on objects as close as 1.5 feet. For distance viewing, it brings everything 6-8 times closer depending on which model you get.

They are good for watching birds at 20-30 feet (low forest canopies). Beyond that these binos are still useful, but start lo lose details.

For a close up butterfly or a beaver one hundred yards away, these will serve you well. The only draw back is the warning that they are not water proof; I hesitate using them in the rain.

They are very clear and are fine for farther distances but recognize that they only magnify 8.5X.

We have these binoculars at our lake house. Close up or a far distance is great. Small , lightweight, and precise viewing. Great value for the money!!
