I've never used a kindle fire before but if you have it plugged in, the battery indicator with a lightning bolt symbol means its recharging. I hope this info helps.

I don't own a Kindle Fire, so I can't say for sure. But I suspect your kindle is charging. On many devices a battery with a lightning bolt over it is shown so you know it's plugged in and charging properly.
