Do I have to match the length of the sound bar to the size of my TV? My TV is 42 in, will a 40 in. sound bar work for it?

Nope, i got a 65" HDTV with a 42" sound bar and looks and sound great!

No the size of the sound bar is irrelevant what counts is the quality of the sound. My HD TV is a 55 works just great. Go for it!

I have Vizio 42" full HD tv and the vizio 40" sound bar. Like others have said the size of tv and the sound bar is irrelevant. Just center it under the tv to make it look neat. And the sound bar sounds great my vizio tv can be set to Pcm, Dolby etc. and everything works fine. Sounds like a perfect fit, and the price seems to be at an alltime low. BUT, there's a good chance this bar will drive you nuts if you don't heed the precautions of the other reviewers. The Vizio does not decode Dolby, which means no sound from your HD channels unless you can set your TV or cable box source to PCM.
