Yes, and as far as I’m concerned it eliminates the main reason I wanted this kettle—to avoid plastic and have the boiling water touched only by stainless steel. The kettle is beautifully designed except for this major oversight by Amazon. Most people want stainless steel to avoid plastic leaching into their food/drinks. But at least this is a much smaller amount of plastic than a totally plastic kettle. But Amazon should redesign this product without ANY plastic touching the heated water.

The description does say the kettle is BPA-free.
