Can you turn on the flash as a "fill" flash, or can you only set it to automatic, where the camera decides when to flash?

Hi, you can do both. When in auto, its only an auto/off mode, whereas in P mode, you can also set it to "always on" and "slow synchro". Slow synchro "keeps subjects and distant backgrounds brights".

You can turn on and turn off the flash, unless you set it to automatic mode.

I haven't had many situations where the flash is needed especially in Handheld Twilight mode.
