HORRIBLE! I have taken about 300 pics of elementary school basketball....90 % of them are blurry, or too bright. I tried every setting?? So far I am very frustrated with this camera! There is supposed to be image stabilization? Also, the only "motion" or "action" setting I see is the pet setting?? I am sure part … see more HORRIBLE! Mine are blurry and yellow; slow for movement- not much luck with that setting. New to the Cyber-shot, would love the pictures to come out; for we have daughters that play basketball

A gym setting usually has very high lighting. Even the cheapest cameras today make pretty darned good pics in good lighting. This camera makes GREAT pics in good light. The difference is when you zoom in to "actual pixels." I've got this great picture of my baby daughter in the snow on a sunny day. Zoomed out in preview mode on my PC it looks good. When I cropped it and blew it up to 8x10 you can see all the fine lines in her plaid jacket. You'll like it in the gym see less A gym setting usually has very high lighting. They would all turn out without any lighting problems. The zoom you will enjoy too!

Haven't tried using in a gym setting....but, indoor non-flash photos are excellent. Surprising light gathering abilities of camera make these shots easy and of very good quality and moving shots necessarily show the motions.
