This case is definitely not waterproof due to the openings for the ear piece, speakers and mics. However, it is probably the best all around water resistant model on the market. On a couple of occasions I actually had to take the phone out of the OtterBox and wipe it down with a soft cloth along with the inside of the case because the rain was so heavy and I had to take an emergency call with no shelter around. The phone was just slightly damp in a couple of places where the pouring down rain had made it through the above mentioned openings. My phone survived fine, as well as the case and I still use both today. Probably other than those cases that are like putting your phone in a plastic bag, this is the next best thing for water resistance and all around realistic use on a daily basis. It does add a bit of bulk and weight to the iPhone however. see less This case is definitely not waterproof due to the openings for the ear piece, speakers and mics. I would have to describe it as being water resistant, but not waterproof. We've never dropped it in water, but sweat (during workouts) and light rain definitely does not penetrate the case. Hope that helps!

The microphones top & bottom are open as is the shutter for the camera. Those parts are sheltered, but not waterproof.

I dropped mine on the concrete in the heavy rain and didn't know and found it a couple minutes later and the screen had gotten a tiny bit wet (but my daughter had pushed the screen protected and broken a bit of the seal before) and my phone was fine so I would say it is pretty good for normal situations like rain, not … see more I dropped mine on the concrete in the heavy rain and didn't know and found it a couple minutes later and the screen had gotten a tiny bit wet (but my daughter had pushed the screen protected and broken a bit of the seal before) and my phone was fine so I would say it is pretty good for normal situations like rain, not for being submerged...if it fell in a sink for of water I think it would get damaged. see less I dropped mine on the concrete in the heavy rain and didn't know and found it a couple minutes later and the screen had gotten a tiny bit wet (but my daughter had pushed the screen protected and broken a bit of the seal before) and my phone was fine so I would say it is pretty good for normal situations like rain, not for being submerged...if it fell in a sink for of water I think it would get damaged.

Good afternoon Patricia,
I have to agree with some of the other responses that are (above/below).
This case is good at protecting vital ports and keeping dust and moisture out; however, as far as full water protection, light rain would be 'okay', but you may want to consider something else for 'full' protection (i.e. … see more

There is a case called 'LifeProof' that you could use with 100% water protection. By no means am I downplaying Otterbox, there are just different functionalities of each case. With the Otterbox you get some moisture protection, ports covered and a screen protector built in that helps with finger prints and smudges; while, on the LifeProof case you get full water protection and dust protection from every angle - unfortunately, to my knowledge there isn't too much rubber against anti-shock as there is with the Otterbox.
Good luck at your choice, I hope you enjoy your case either way! :)

If you want water protection then bye the life proof cases. This case would protect from rain but not from being submerged

Not sure, from what I can tell it's not much, camera and speaker are exposed through openings in the Outterbox.
