As one reviewer comments, keeping track of who is who and what they are up to is confusing. Having said that, if you do have a good understanding of the dramas surrounding Henry VIII and his wives why would you bother? As for whether it is accurate - ask any qualified historian - so called facts and truth are mostly a matter of personal interpretation of the prime sources. see less

Actually, I found no difficulty in becoming engaged with this book. And while it's true that it closely follows currently accepted historical thinking, Ms. Mantel's characterizations bring history to life.

The story starts off slowly and I almost lost interest, but it is really worth pursuing. The main character, Thomas Cromwell, is beautifully portrayed and the history appears to be meticulously researched.
