I'd be worried about scalding the milk next to the element. I added a customer image to show the element is set in the plastic. I've been considering heating a cup set in boiling water.

I bought a second one, and it works every time. I only boil water. I don't cook with it, or heat any other liquid. I use it at work to boil water for tea or hot chocolate. I unplug it after each use, and don't leave water sitting in it over the weekend. I use it at work from September to June, never over the summer. see less

It does not have an on or off setting. It does have a Low setting and a High setting with other settings in the middle. I always unplug the machine after it starts to bubble and it is hot.
