The square block is 2 3/4 inches by 2 3/4 inches and 1 5/8 inches thick. The rectangle block is 2 3/4 inches by 5 1/2 inches and 1 5/8 inches thick . All the rest can be figured out from there. When they arrived I didn't notice any "off smell". The Melissa & Doug website has a safety statement for each item they sell. Might pay to ck there. My almost 5 yer old has played with them every day since they arrived.

These are large, daycare/school size and quality blocks, not the little ones in the 100 piece set. I have a home daycare and own 2 sets of these blocks. We LOVE them! They are amazing!

Ive not seen them but looking at the pictures of the two sets it would appear that the 60pc set comprises significantly larger plain blocks for general use by all ages whereas the 200pc set has vividly decorated pieces apparently for the very young to aid with colour, shape and design recognition. Hope this helps.
