Answer:
I did not pay attention to that. I just wanted stainless steel straws, these had better reviews and were bent, not straight.

Answer:
The straws are 8 ins high from their bottom to the tip. If you measure the actual length of the straw itself, not accounting for the bend it is about 8.5ins. I can only assume the Product Details measurements refer to the package they come in.

Oh, yes! that is precisely why I purchased them. The smoother the Smoothie the better the delivery of the Smoothie through the straw to your delight. Essentially, it works just as well as any straw as when drinking a Milk-shake.
I also bought a Straw Cleaning Brush for easy cleaning of the stainless steel straw. To avoid using the brush, I will immediately rinse the straw running hot soapy water down it then rinsing with, as hot of water as I can stand. If you let the straw sit allowing the smoothing ingredients to harden inside the straw then the brush is essential to proper cleaning.
The stainless steel does conduct the chill of the smoothie. If using ice in your smoothie the straw can get very, very cold to the touch, almost uncomfortable on the lips.
I would NOT use a stainless steel straw on Hot Chocolate or coffee as I surmise they would conduct the heat just as easily as the cold, resulting in burning your lips.
