If you are unhappy with one of your opponents you can throw the batteries at them, or take off a sock and put the batteries in it to make a sap.

All of the land squares and surrounding water are completely removable which makes for more variability in board arrangements. I do not recognize the dark blue bordered board. I have also played the newer version where some of the land pieces are connected. There is less variability among games if you play it a lot, but it is still a ton of fun and not a deal breaker by any means.

You negate the reason to have a robber piece (use to hamper opponents.) You lose the race for titles such as longest road or largest army, since yours is the only road and the only army, yahoo! four points for you! You lose the ability to trade goods you lack with other who have them. You'd have to choose starting positions that gave you every resource you need to expand on your own. You lose the need to cache point cards in your hand to pull a surprise victory in the end. I guess you'd be racing yourself to see how few turns it took to reach the winning condition. Honestly, it wouldn't be a test of skill each time, as you can't negotiate on trade, whether you get resources or not is determined by die rolls, whether those point cards come up or not is based on luck too. It would be much better to play multiple players yourself, than to play a single player game.
