I put my foot on the base to readjust the angle etc. (bending the neck) Otherwise the handle, on the light lets me move it around easily. I have not had a tipping problem. I really love this lamp.

no. the light covers a very small area and is definitely blue. in order to get a good view of where u r stitching, u need to pull the glass down very close...the smaller more magnified circle is too small and isn't magnified enough. there must be better mag/lamps out there. i'm sorry i bought this one.

The battery compartment on mine is actually quite easy to open. I can just slip my nails in the crack at the top back and push slightly and it slips right off. You could also use the tip of a butter knife or something similar to slip in the crack and nudge it open, then it will simply slide off. You could also use the tip of a butter knife or something similar to slip in the crack and nudge it open, then it will simply slide off. according to the adapter it says the input is 110 - 240volts ac 50/60 cycle.
The plug on the end is for USA 110 volts (standard 2 prong spade). We have had tis for a few years so I don't remember if it came with a European connector. I hope this helps.
