There aren't any "sudden" disadvantages but there will be issues in the long run. Apps will become out to date which means you won't be able to run them anymore or will have an older version. The software is nice enough where the buyer may never mind but the buyer might want to upgrade the device to get the most current apps- this is what Apple wants because it's more money for them.
Sadly, before Tim Cook became the Apple CEO, Jobs stated that he wanted all his devices able to update and have the most current software. He did not want to charge his customers for the updates and he did not want his customers upgrading to new devices u less they wanted too. He was a believer in allowing those who wanted to keep their first gen touches to be able to keep them. In my opinion, this is going to be part of the reason Apple goes downhill- apple has always been about restrictions. Android has taken off on the opposite platform which is why you see so many different features with their products. Apple is behind about two years.
I believe you could possibly get around the app issue if you "jailbreak" the device but you will have to research it yourself. When I use to do it back when the first gen touches were new it was a bit more complicated. see less
