It is advertised as such, but when I microwaved mine, the top level cracked. Amazon replaced it, and I haven't microwaved it since. No problems with the bottom layer in the microwave, though!

The thing … see more Depending on how you're carrying the container from place to place. The middle compartment is like a Tupperware container and actually has a sealed lid on it. If your pasta sauce is thick, then I would suppose it wouldn't be an issue, especially if the whole bento + the strap was put together. Soup? Maaaybe. The thing is, it's not as secure as a Tupperware container, and while yes technically it will hold soup and sauces, you don't want to be shaking/dropping/flipping upside down the containers. I put yogurt and sometimes pasta salad (with dressing) in my middle compartment and it's never leaked. see less
