Answer:
These are lightweight, but they are fairly sturdy. I use one for an 8' arm that holds an overhead light and it works fine, but if requires a counter weight along with weights to hold the stand on the ground. If you're on a tight budget these will do for indoor use with a reflector.

Go back to the ad and view the third picture down. Move your your mouse arrow over the picture where you get an expanded view of the top ends. There you can see a unpainted aluminum bars pressed into the black painted tubes. The very end of those aluminum bars were cut down to 1/4" on the ends and then threaded to 1/4"-20 tpi x 3/8" long. That little black spot you see on the tip ends in the picture are the acorn nuts covering the screws. Those aluminum bar ends are very tightly pressed into the tubes so you got a set of stands that weren't complete. I'm sure you can contact Amazon for replacement of your order. Good luck... see less

Answer:
Yes. However, these are very cheaply constructed and rickety. I would suggest a slightly heavier duty light stand. Possibly the Paul Buff 10' (http://www.paulcbuff.com/ls3050.php) or the PBL (http://www.amazon.com/PBL-Cushioned-Kaeser-Photographic-Lighting/dp/B009POMCGW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421216017&sr=8-1&keywo… see more Yes.
