Answer:
No unfortunately it is motor driven only. The rocker on the top is variable speed but not the fastest motor. The rocker on the handle is single speed as is the remote. It is quiet though. My older Sony DV handycam is about twice as fast going from wide to telephoto.

Answer:
I've had one for about 4 years. Then bought a second one about 2 years ago. I travel a lot with them and probably dont pack them away like I should, but...So far I haven't had any issues at all. Very durable little cameras! I recommend them.

The version I got over a year ago is apparently the USA version. It seems to have a metallic body, I assume Aluminum, and the output in SD Mode is NTSC - not PAL or SECAM. I shoot everything in the highest quality HD and the camera will convert it to SD, or my editing software will so the same. I have two 64g memory cards in it giving me a total of 192 gigs of storage including the built in memory for an absurdly long capacity.
BTW, I have no complaints about the camera, it does a beautiful job and works perfectly after over a year. THere is a new version with a 20:1 Zoom and built in WiFi. The extra Zoom length would be nice. see less
