Hello, unfortunately the CableDrops have a permanent adhesive. You could rip the cable drop off but there will be residue left, you could then try Goo-B-Gone, or another adhesive remover to remove the remnants from your desk/table. I haven't had a problem. If there has been any residue (adhesive) I use a clorox wipes or a wet paper towel.

As long as you aren't too aggressive when removing the cord, you'll be fine. I used these for that exact purpose and only had them fall off when I pulled a little too hard on the cord. If putting them on a wood surface, they will pull up splinters when you remove it.

I never tried mine in the car. Although the tape is pretty strong, I have doubts it would last long in a hot car. I live in the south and I know how hot it gets! These little guys are great though!

I use these cable drops in my truck for holding audio cable in place that i pretty much have no plans to move ever or maybe swap out on occasion, they hold well for that.
