Well, I can get several local TV stations without a cable box. I removed the Verizon box and it picks up about 20 stations. And they come in better without the box.

In order to hear the speakers from the TV you're using as a monitor you would need to connect an audio cable to it just as you would with a regular monitor. However, if you have speakers other than those built in to the TV, those will work without connecting anything to the TV. I have extra speakers, a 5.1 surround system that is connected to an upgraded audio card in the computer. If you do not have this, then there should be a wire to connect to your computer to an audio plug on the back of theTV, just as you would do so if you have a regular computer monitor.
