Answer:
Hi Nicolas, The way Garmin technicians explained it to me, the original models were all metal but after the issue of back plate rub off, Garmin replaced all of them with a refurbished/plastic plated ones; although, they look and feel the same to me.

So, the answer to your question is - it is an optional accessory, and not required for the normal operation; that is the same with the heart rate monitor which is good to have, but not required. see less

Answer:
So, i didn't know it had this capability so browsed thru the settings and noticed it has a RUN/WALK setting. If you turn that on you get a run and a walk option and you can set how many minutes for each. So, the answer is yes.

Answer:
I've had TONS of issues with charging. The charging nodes corrode fairly easily (on the charging cradle, not the watch itself) and the 610 has a nasty habit of DE-charging when plugged in (e.g., you will see it go from 90% to 85%...etc.)

Answer:
It is a bulkier watch. Please take this in the right way, but runners seem to like larger watches (easier to find buttons and easier to read the screen). My wife has two 610's (both black) and she loves them for what they do not for size. Bottom line, great watch but a little bulky.
