I don't recommend it. The filter will crumble and fall apart (i've tried!). What I normally do is get a disinfectant wipe and wipe the filters down. I have cats too and mine is also relatively close to the liter box.

You have to push and hold the UV Control Button for 5 seconds to reset the Filter Change indicator.

Yes you do need to buy another one...But if you keep cleaned off it will last about a year...I love mine so much bought another one ,because I live in 2,000 sq ft...

The pre-filter is attached to the main filter. Everything that you see here is what you need as a replacement for an AC4825 or AC5250PT

You can simply throw this filter away. It doesn't use any toxic materials or anything that would be considered harmful to organic life. The filter is mostly made out of foam, paper, and activated charcoal.

We have 4 doxies and 1 long-haired chow/mixed dog. Changes are made every 3 months for optimal use.
