Yes, it works for both my original Kindle reader and my Kindle Fire HD. I wanted to have two of these - one for each house, so I wouldn't have to remember to pack all my cords and plugs every time I travel between homes, which is about 9 times a year.

I would imagine that it can be used for both versions of the Kindle Paperwhite; otherwise, it would clarify on description of the charger. If it doesn't, I'm sure it can always be returned. The Amazon Kindle support team is excellent, so touching base with them might be useful before purchase.

Hi Brad..I use it for the Paperwhite and it works fine. The white charger cord on the Paperwhite is basically a USB cable with a small end to insert into the Kindle and a USB end that fits either into a laptop port, or into the white charger that plugs into an outlet. It's small, portable and clever.

If you have a computer, you can plug in the cord that comes with it. If you want the ability to charge it anywhere, then go ahead and get the plug adapter. The chord fits into the opposite end making it very easy to plug it into any socket and keep reading.
