Yes it holds my galaxy note 10.1 2014 wonderfully. It's nice and heavy, and doesn't press the home button; The only downside is that you can't connect a power cable while it's in the dock. The only way for that to work is to actually flip it over upside down.

As for "best" that I can't answer. It will support the iPad, and if you get TV on it, it will work (the device is just a mechanical support). You might want something that hold the iPad higher for a better viewing angle.

Doesn't really work on iPad Air - pressure applied to it has to be so strong with stylus, that the iPad is flying around with a stand!
