Progressive gives the full frame every frame but interlaced with give horizontal frame and then the vertical frame back and forth. Progressive is much better than interlaced because it is capable of giving more full frames per second. Imagine 60 frames per second, you would get 30 horizontal frames and 30 vertical with interlaced. With progressive you would get all 60 vertical and horizontal at the same time, as the whole picture doesn't go back and forth. The end result is a more fluent picture with progressive. I'm not a pro or anything but this is my general understanding. see less

Felicity ,The TV unfortunately does not have direct headphone outputs.
The jack you are referring to on the TV is actually a 3.5mm PC audio input so your PC can play through TV amp and speakers .

On the back of the TV set There are left and right audio ( fixed volume ) outputs. red/white RCA connectors much like you would find on a DVD player or VCR

To use headphone you will need an RCA to 3.5mm stereo splitter and 3.5mm male to male cord you could connect these to the TV red white Audio outs on the TV then into a powered PC speaker set that have an 3.5 mm headohone out or an inexpensive headphone amplifier or a wireless headphone set. and plug your headphone into that. You will need
these :

(1) 3.5mm input to rca splitter
(1) 3.5mm Male to Male Stereo Audio Cable they come in various lengths
(1) of three either (1) an inexpensive headphone amplifier,OR (1) powered PC speaker with 3.5mm
headphone output OR (1) a powered wireless headphone set . all of these items are available here
inexpensively at Amazon do you have headphones already ?
This can all be done very inexpensively if you search here at Amazon you will find lots of options . see less
