Yes it can however as I have stated in my review it has a playback issues and may also have playback issues with 2d titles as well. So keep that in mind if conisdering purchasing this player.

The manual has a section about rebooting the system. If a power outage occurs or a surge makes the machine slow. I have never had to reboot. I live in an area that, because of weather conditions, loses power frequently. I haven't had any issues with this product.

That means mkv, mp4, divX and other codecs are like hit and miss circus. I own the DMP-BDT220, 360 and the 460, they play some mp4's files from my 2TB, 2.5 hard drives and some don't, maybe is in how the audio recorded is compatible with the Panasonic player. Look into getting a video converter or hook up your mkv's files to the usb or hdmi from the source and see what happen. If you have not bought the unit yet, don't expect miracles, those units don't even have a digital display to tell you what they're doing, hope this help! see less
