I uploaded pictures for both of my parents (I ended up getting 2) and they have these digital picture frames by their bed and watch the pictures scroll on repeat. So, yes I think this would be ideal for your mother.
The only thing I would suggest would be to buy a SD card so you have the option to upload a lot of pictures.

If you're trying to load .jpg's and you feel like you have tried everything, you're probably doing the same thing I did. On the Viewsonic VFD820 Digital photo frame, the photos have to be in the BASELINE format. Its the most important part if you're getting the red circle with a slash. I took all the photos off Facebook and they are in PROGRESSIVE format. ****I saved them all as .tiff and then exported them all as .jpg with 1000 max pixel dimension and this solved my troubles. If you just save it as .jpg with out changing to .tiff (or .png) it will just revert to the progressive format. I hope this saves someone some time. see less
