They are not designed that way. The kit does include a pair of scissors that are great. I use these clippers every 4-6 weeks. They work well. But I am definitely not a pro. I need to get my Lhasa-poo done by a pro about 2-3xs a year. She fixes him up for me. I highly recommend these clippers but not to remove matting. see less

The black lever on top left (as shown in the main image) allows you to adjust the position of the moving blade up and down across a distance of about 8 mm ( 1/3 of an inch.) If you push the moving blade all the way up, it is closer to the end of the metal "comb" and therefore allows you to make very close cuts. If you push the moving blade all the way down, it allows you to make cuts that leave approximately 8-10 mm of hair on the animal. Of course the various plastic multi-colored snap-on allow you to make cuts that leave even more hair length. In practice the plastic snap-ons allow you to leave up to approximately 2 inches of hair. The blade itself is not, however, replaceable, at least not in any way that the manufacturer instructs you how to do. Overall this kit gives you a very good ability to choose how much hair to leave on the animal. see less

Answer:
Comes with all the combs for what ever length or kind of cut you want to make. Never cut without using them, you could very easily cut the skin of the dog. Even when you think it just cut close, the next day, you will see skin irritated by to close of a cut.

Answer:
Probably. You can't use human clippers on pets because the volume and texture of their fur is tougher on the clippers than human hair. So with that logic, your hair would probably be no big deal to these clippers.
