Answer:
Verizon FIOs internet services can be provided either via the coax or a standard Ethernet connection. You have to specify you want your internet access on Ethernet before they install it to have the cost included in the setup. You should be able to have it switched over but they may charge you for that. I have FIOs and have both coax for the cable boxes and Ethernet for my computers active. you could put this behind the actiontech router simply by connecting one of the 4 LAN ports on the Actiontec to the WAN port on the Trendnet but then you will have a double-nat setup just make sure the LAN ip addresses setup for the Actiontec are different then the ones you select for the Trendnet one. see less Verizon FIOs internet services can be provided either via the coax or a standard Ethernet connection. Answer:
i believe you will need a modem. The Trend-net device is a wireless router and is not a stand alone device. The normal sequence is 1) ISP line into house. 2) A compatible modem for your IPS provider. 3) A wireless or wired router. 4) Your internet device (laptop, ipad, desktop, ect.).

The coaxial connection would normally be for a modem, or a modem/ router combo. But unfortunately, this product is only the router.
If youre looking for the combo with relative speeds, I would personally recommend
https://www.amazon.com/SURFboard-SBG6782-AC-DOCSIS-AC1750-Router/dp/B00GJ7Y7MU/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1476656398&sr=1-2&keywords=SBG6900-AC
But, if youre looking to use this TrendNet Router with a reliable modem, then I would recommend what I use
https://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-SURFboard-SB6190-DOCSIS-Cable/dp/B016PE1X5K/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1476656492&sr=1-1&keywords=sb6190
Both recommended products are DOCSIS 3
I have Comcast, with the blast speeds plan, and receive roughly 200mbps, but dependent on your plan through your internet provider, you may get more or less.
Hope this helps! let me know if you have anymore questions!

Answer:
Does your modem have wireless wifi too? I'm not sure what your question is really. If your modem doesn't have wireless wifi your laptop won't connect.
