You have to take the camera out of the case to get to the battery compartment. I am very happy with the purchase and have no difficulty using the camera while in the case.

I didn't like the mega gear case for my P530 because the snaps wouldn't stay closed. I bought a Retro case, also from Amazon. Top quality synthetic leather, secure snaps. Just order for your camera model, and they'll send you the right one. Mine has seen rough service. I'm well satisfied

The case has a separate bottom that screws to the bottom of the camera. The top section, that covers the lens and camera proper, snaps onto the bottom section. It can be "dropped" down while still attached, or it can be unsnapped to remove it completely.

According to info on this item, it will fit the P520 & P530. Both cameras appear identical (body wise) so I would say yes to your question.
