There was previously a bit of an issue where Amazon mixed the inventory of v1 and v2 versions, but this has since been corrected. Amazon now only carries and is shipping the R6300v2 version.

Yes you are supposed to be able to do that in the advanced settings. You can assign devices by mac address and then put some restrictions on them. Have never done it before but I was looking at the settings last night before setting this device up as a bridge for my newer AC1900 model.
