During daylight hours, it does so very well. When using the IR lighting, there is a lot of glare. I've tried several ways to eliminate it, but so far no luck. I have read where someone blacked out the lights on the camera and used IT illuminators outside, and that worked. I'll be giving that a try myself.

Yes, you can write the files to your FTP site. That feature is on the older models, too. You can also trigger it to e-mail images in notifications.

It does loop record on a sd card. Also I love the fact that in an addition sends the pic to your email accounts. I recommend it.

I haven't tested, but if you have an SD card inside, and previously set up the camera's settings while on a local network, it should snap photos and record video just fine without being attached to anything.
