If you go into advanced power settings you can turn off adaptive brightness. That fixed this issue for me.

Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options, then click on "Change plan settings" next to your active power plan.… see more

Click on "Change advanced power settings."
Scroll down to Display, then under Enable adaptive brightness, switch it off for both the battery and plugged in modes. see less

No, it doesn't... it's pretty bare bones when it comes to that. I installed Open Office immediately and it works perfectly for my needs.

If you mean with the touchpad - not the touch screen, the answer is still yes. Just 2 finger touch the touchpad and slide up or down.

The SSD is only so that it boots up fast (and it does). There is still a large optical drive for memory storage.
