I just purchased this headset and have found a few nuances I'll share. I haven't been able to update the headset yet (Mac), so I'm hoping an update may help even more. Here is what I've found:
-The USB connection does work, but you cannot adjust the volume controls on the adapter itself. I only care about mute and 7.1 working, so no biggie for me currently.
-Mute is finicky. To get this headset to work with 7.1 do this:
-Turn off the PS4
-With headset fully connected via USB, turn on the console and as soon as the adapter lights up, keep pressing the 7.1 button until it stays solid.
This should give you the 7.1 access (may have to adjust audio settings on PS4) and the mute button will work. I've had some weird issues where I've logged out, logged back in, and had to perform above steps again to get the mute button to work (the 7.1 stayed functional).
I'll update again if I'm about to update the headset and see if that fixes the intermittent mute button and volume control issues. Hope this helps. see less

This affects a lot of headsets these days, unfortunately. see less

Answer:
It's turned off by default, but you can enable playback to hear everything they would hear from you. You can find the option in the Windows device options from right clicking the speaker icon.
