Would recommend hand washing, but you can also place in a washing machine gentle cycle, cold water. Line dry.

I’ve never used them in a carry on so I don’t know. I have mixed feelings in these bags. I can pack more in my suitcase without them. They leave air space between them. BUT when I get to where I’m going it is so nice to neatly put these bags in the drawer in my hotel room. Pants in one. Shirts in another. Probably because the cubes help you pack more. In an orderly fashion. But, they don’t truly “compress” anything.
