It IS a kindle fire! It just has kids mode already on it, and you get access to all the games and kid's content for free. The apps and books are free for 1 year, and then you would have to pay monthly to continue using all the games and such in freetime unlimited mode. (It's a reduced monthly price if you're prime members.) The kids play through the kids mode (freetime unlimited), so you don't have to worry about them going on the internet or changing settings etc.. You can, however, still have whatever apps you've downloaded from the play store, since it's a fully functional kindle fire. You can even download regular games and give your kids access to that game via the kids mode. The case is great, and I prefer to use it inside the kid's case rather than by itself. It also comes with a TWO year (no questions-asked) replacement. We've had it since my son turned 3 years about 7months ago, and he loves it. I have neeeevvvvvver used it after he's gone to bed, so I cannot tell you that I love it, too. ;)

You can watch Netflix in any mode with this tablet. I am able to limit the amount of time my children spend watching Power Rangers on the tablet through Netflix. =) You need to be under parent mode and when selecting the apps you are allowing to share, I had to go to all apps, and Netflix was towards the bottom.

The fire kids edition generally works as all kindles, as soon you download a book/song you can read/listen without wifi - but you need the connection for the downloading part. Many games also can be played without internet connection - but again - the connection is needed for the downloading. Hope that helps.

Both. Initially, you start with your account, yhen add your childs as a new profile. The step by step process is pretty simple. I have control over the existing apps,games,books, & videos that will transfer to my child's fire. I am able to access my profile on her kindle, but she can't access mine with out the password.

ABC Mouse IS AVAILABLE on the amazon app store. My kids currently use it on my Fire HDX 7", certain it works just as well.

Most of the kid content is not available outside the US. We tried to buy this tablet when we lived in Canada. If you have Plex, you can download shows and watch it without WiFi. With WiFi Netflix is an option.
