Yes the ones we got were true to size. Only suggestion would be if you're 1/2 size, I'd go up to nxt whole size.

I did not get the shoe with a heel support strap. If you have a shoe repair shop in your town, I would recommend going there. I find that I do not need to have a heel strap to keep my foot in the shoe, but your father may need that help. D is a measure of how wide the shoe is. D is standard in my opinion. An E or EE for example would fit a wide foot. This shoe fits small. I had to return mine. Order size 11 if you are a 10-10.5.
