After using a French press, add some water to the grounds and pour this through a wire mesh strainer, like a tea strainer. Repeat if necessary. Then dump the moist grounds into a can, bag, garbage, garden, your choice. Rinse strainer. Rinse press. Rinse plunger. Done. (To understand how to use this, you should also learn how to use a glass French press.)

Note: You can compact your grounds into a puck with this Kohipress. This is bad.

If you are seeing compact grounds at the bottom that are hard to rinse out, you are not following directions. This will only happen when you put too much coffee in. The mesh filter at the bottom will push against the coffee, compacting it. The result will be coffee that is over-extracted, and sooner or later you will damage the filter. see less

Answer:
The outside is metal, the inside press is plastic. We love this press, the quality is good. There are a couple of seals that can be easily lost when washing, so you must be mindful to not lose them. Also, just to share, the directions say not to wash in dishwasher. Hand washing is not a deal breaker for us though.

I drink my coffee with almond/soy milk and sometimes a little bit of sugar so I've encountered that problem before too. Or I add the sugar once the coffee is pressed so the sugar can melt. see less I drink my coffee with almond/soy milk and sometimes a little bit of sugar so I've encountered that problem before too. Answer:
Not much pressure is needed just make sure the lid is not down (I leave the lid off until after i press it down). I use a medium grind on the coffee. It does not plug into anything so no need for 220v. Add ground coffee, add boiling water, wait 4 minutes and then press it down and done.

Answer:
Probably so, but I have not actually put it in the dishwasher. I empty the grounds into a strainer each morning, then rinse, and leave the various parts out to dry. I have felt no need to do any further cleaning. Hope this helps.

Answer:
Yes. It is stainless steel. However I would recommend placing it on the top rack.
