If you read the instructions, is states to press the "on" button again. The unit will stop cooking but, still take 30 seconds to actually shut off. So, it will feel like it is still "on" but, it is shutting down.
This is a weird feature of this machine. To do a mid-cook shake (don't press any buttons!) just pull out the basket and it will stop automatically. Push the basket back in and (again dont push anything) it will start automatically.
