I lived in Samoa for 33 years. If they are the least bit water soluble, they will melt together in the tropics. Packaging in plastic won’t help.
You might want to try soap nuts...they are what I used down there.

Should work. I bought it for use on a cruise. The smell is quite strong, though. I put a small amount in a ziploc bag, then wrapped in foil, and that contained the strong fragrance.

No, it doesn't not come wrapped in plastic but the envelope itself is "plasticized" which is not recyclable to the best of my knowledge. I have no idea about your other question.

Michelle thanks for asking this clarifying question. Yes, they work in front loading washing machines. You can tear the detergent sheet into smaller pieces and place them in with the laundry before closing the door and adding water.
