The gears are metal, it is a well built sharpener. I took it apart just to see what was inside and to my surprise it was pretty rigid

If broken leads get stuck in the blade, you can pull out the shavings box and use a metal pin to get rid of the broken lead. Thank you.

Yes, it can sharpen hard charcoal and pastel pencils. But this heavy duty pencil sharpener is not for soft lead pencils. Thank you.

The opener uses the most common 2 prong 120 V 60 HZ USA standard connector. I am not sure what you would adapt it with for Israel but it would be the most common adaptor for a USA small appliance.

Yes, it operates easily. Just plug in and insert the pencil. The pencil will start sharpening automatically. Take out the pencil when the resistance decreases. Thank you.
