Some motherboards only have a 4pin CPU power connection (generally motherboards designed for less powerful CPUs which don't need as much power) while others made for higher end/higher power CPUs have a full 8 pin connector. Each end is a 4 pin so that you can fit a 4 or 8 pin motherboard connector. If the cable isn't fitting into the plug on your motherboard make sure you are plugging it in with the right orientation (check the shape of the pins on the cable adapter and make sure they match the shape of the holes on the port of your motherboard).

Without knowing which B550 you are referring to, and what you are trying to supply, a qualified answer would be yes. Of course, this is an excellent PSU. Whisper quiet under normal use. And with a great selection of connectors from which to choose.
