It is connected to the power supply as an 8 and the end that connects to your video card is 6 + 2.

I haven't had this happen so I'd 100% RMA this. Your power supply shouldn't be getting hot at all, maybe slightly warm at most but never hot.

If you mean 6+8 pin, then yes, it should be fine.
I used it with an 8+8 pin card for a while.

Without knowing which B550 you are referring to, and what you are trying to supply, a qualified answer would be yes. Of course, this is an excellent PSU. Whisper quiet under normal use. And with a great selection of connectors from which to choose.
