Not unless you are planning to wear very thick socks. I have worn mine with athletic socks and support socks (support socks are thin). I just tighten them a little when I wear the thinner socks. They are very forgiving. Great shoes by the way, I have really enjoyed them for everyday wear.
The Targhee Vent offers great cushioning and is flexible. That said, if you are looking for a shoe that is more rigid and supportive to your arch, we recommend the Voyageur.
