I know exactly which Payless ones you are referring to as I wear those too! These are very similar. I have these in grey and navy. I do feel like they stretch out a bit more quickly than the Payless ones, otherwise are very comparable.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, however, one of mine somehow got tangled in with some laundry and went through a normal wash (warm wash/cool rinse). I let it air dry. It was absolutely fine. In fact, the pair later got really gritty and I threw them both in on purpose. I’m still wearing them a year later.

I just step right into mine. They are very comfortable and feel great. I have wide feet and they don’t fee too narrow. I would assume if you get the right size they should slide right on for you too.
