Product Description
In the epic action adventure Avatar, James Cameron, the director of Titanic, takes us to a spectacular new world beyond imagination. On the distant moon Pandora, a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, Avatar delivers a fully immersible cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

Avatar illustrates with astounding eloquence that so very much of what many people spend their entire lives pursuing is, in the end, just trivialities. But there are those among us who shine their light upon the Transcendent. And one of the greatest privileges is to truly inwardly "See" what is Transcendent -- and then to live our lives for the Transcendent.
All that is Not to say that this film's purpose is to explicitly describe that which is Truly beyond compare, since this film's Fullest Purpose is to be a parable -- a parable of that which is truly great, and that each of us must individually CHOOSE to give ourself to that which is truly great {those who are so blessed as to truly SEE it}; lest in the end we have wasted our lives upon the trivial.

I mention this first because there have been several Avatar releases (DVD, 3D, Blu-Ray, extended, collections, etc. etc.) As you read all the reviews here, do notice that ALL the variations are included, and so you need to be sure you are reading the one that pertains the the one you're considering purchasing. This is not a review of the movie, but specifically of this Blu-Ray version.
I don't expect to get a 3D TV, but as a both a fan of this movie and someone interested about the art and craft involved in film making I thought it was worth waiting for this version.
And boy, howdy, was it!
The transfers are beautiful and (while much of the extras are "fluff") there's more than enough great extras to be well worth it. Certainly the $25 I paid at the beginning of 2015. I especially recommend the "Message from Pandora" which documents Cameron's journeys to the Amazon jungle (one with some of the main cast members) to help publicize the dams being planned that will displace thousands of people. If one of the reasons you love this movie is because of Cameron's well-known deep involvement and knowledge of technology's collision with our planet, you will find this really informative.
If you think he's just another tree-hugging liberal spewing ecological propaganda with this movie....well, you probably aren't interested in the movie (or this feature) anyway.
As for the movie: it's a testament to the of what real actors and CGI we can accomplish together if it's done right and be transported to another world and be sucked into the story completely. James Cameron is an absolute genius. The story itself is one of self discovery, toleration, love of one another and of taking a step back and really seeing what we're doing to our own planet and resources. On the surface it's a very enjoyable movie but underneath that it's very thought provoking. All and all a great movie especially with 3 different versions you can choose to watch. The extended directors cut has 16 minutes added I hadn't seen before and the behind the scenes extras are great. BUT THERES NO GAG REEL *sigh. Guess you can't have everything lol.

The only drawback is this edition is spread throughout 2 dvds so you've to swap discs half way through (they could've just put the extended directors version on a separate disc alone & so-on)
Anyway it's a great watch, it's got alot of resemblances to Kevin Costner 'dancing with wolves'
I'm glad to have purchased this for a 2nd time as I enjoy thw film start to finish & I'm more then sure everyone else who watches the film will also do so..

Seriously long, but well worth the journey. James Cameron at his best.
The blue ray presentation is excellent and really adds to the experience, highlighting details that could be missed in a lesser format.
My only quibble is why they needed to include 3 versions of the film. My advice would be to watch the extended version and forget the others.
I haven't yet watched the bonus material, but it looks like there's an interesting and extensive selection of interviews and documentaries.
Well worth the money.

My order arrived fast and in a very condition. The movie is beautiful and the video and audio quality is top notch!... I' m extremely pleased with my order and I have to thank you a lot, my dear friends for your Excellent service.
As you know, I'm a collector, so I have hundreds of new tittles in my mind, but it's not possible to buy all of them at the same time, naturally. So, I hope continuing to buy for many years, if God helps me...
Ok, that's all for the moment from Lisbon (PORTUGAL). Bye-bye, I will come back very soon.
Sincerely yours,
Hélder Reis Videira

What you receive, is a Blu-ray case, with Avatar picture on the front, and two discs inside. The Blu-ray case comes in a card exterior with a 3D picture on the front. The picture on both the case, and card exterior is the same (except that the 3D artwork is only on the card, not the Blu-ray case). The two discs inside are a Blu-ray Disc, and a DVD. The Blu-ray disc contains both 2D and 3D (You change that setting in the menu).
My only problem is about the card exterior. At the bottom on the front, is a piece of thin paper showing the age restriction, and the words '3D EDITION', and this paper wraps at the bottom, so is on the outside and inside of the card exterior, which causes problems, and possible damage, if the disc case is inserted through the top of the card exterior. It is not a major problem, it just means, that to maintain minimal damage, you need to always insert the disc case through the bottom of the card exterior.
I said I purchased this set out of curiosity and I am so glad I did. When I watched the movie for the first time (in 3D), I was glued to the screen for the entire time. I was fascinated by the history of each character, and to this day, I still feel I want to visit Pandora, because it is such a magical and interesting place.
Overall, if you want to watch Avatar, and have the flexibility to watch it on any media device (games console, computer, DVD/Bu-ray player, etc.), then purchase this item. I do not regret buying it for a single second, and I don't think anyone else will either.
